3 steps to fade stretch marks and reduce cellulite at home.

Today’s beauty DIY is more of a routine you can do right at home to help fade stretch marks and reduce cellulite. It shouldn’t be a mystery to say the least that we all might have had or still have stretch marks or cellulite.

“I don’t care how perfect you paint your look on Instagram or your social media but you can’t deny that you might have at least one of these somewhere around your body! Doesn’t matter if you are short, thin, skinny, thick, Fat, chubby, athletic – it happens to any form and to many of us.”

Now, I have had it all throughout my late teens – it was just around the side of my hips but that changed once I got pregnant and after that going through weight loss twice and many more times over the last decade. More recently my major weight loss since January up until now has given me the pleasure to add some more to my collection (LOL)

Anyway, I’ll be honest I grew up with a house full of boys so I didn’t know what I was doing when it came to beauty routines. I would simply just do the basics and when I went through pregnancy it was pretty much trying to control the stretch marks from spreading but couldn’t really stop it.

Long story short – I have it! And over quarantine I was really into all things DIY for my beauty routine so I did a lot of reading and watched a lot of videos from beauty gurus, dermatologists and other skincare fanatics. They all had pretty much three things to say – DRY BRUSHING, body scrubbing and micro needling.

Today, We are going to focus on just the two in this post, which is dry brushing and body scrubbing and an essential topping of moisturizing.
I’ve heard about dry brushing couple of years ago but I’ve been too busy or too lazy to be consistent with trying it out and let alone sticking with it. However, I picked this habit up during quarantine and it became a thing! A thing I truly enjoy now! it feels great to do it, like a form of self love. The results are an added bonus, though this type of routines takes patience and consistency but I am happy to say it DOES WORK!

All you need to do to start this practice is to get yourself a body brush with medium coarse bristles that are bendable. Brush the area with the brush in circular motion for 3 – 5 mins daily or every other day. The method is called “DRY” brushing due to its nature of not using any liquid while doing it so you go in with the brush directly on your skin. Just make sure you don’t have any irritated skin on the area you are going to do this, or any kind of active acne, broken skin etc. just plain old stretch marks and cellulite is what we are looking for.

Next, is a good session of body scrubbing with a scrub that will help the process. I chose to go with a shea butter and green tea body scrub because of the ingredients. It helps with hydration and at the same time gives the skin a good scrub. This is commonly done in spas and salons for certain type of baths such as Moroccan or Turkish hammams. So, it’s easily achievable to do at home except you got to do it yourself…

you can do this everyday in the shower if you have the time or make some time for yourself to do this on a weekly basis to see results.
it’s been 4 months for me since I started and I was reluctant to the idea because of my busy schedule but I still manage to do this even after quarantine, I just need to plan it on days I know I will have the extra 15 mins in the shower. As for the dry brushing, I still do it everyday as part of my morning or night routine. You don’t necessarily have to pair the both together at the same time BUT you do need to hydrate the areas everyday whether you’re going to dry brush or body scrub or both!

The two combinations, help produce more blood circulation in the areas, helps regenerate collagen and removes dead skin which all together helps the whole fading and reducing process of the culprits!

I’ve chosen a hydrating green tea body lotion from the khan al saboun collection, which I have found to be excellent for the routine. Giving my skin the moisture, it needs throughout the day and the extra love the stretch marks and cellulite needs too!
I know there are treatments at the clinics these days that can fade stretch marks and also reduce cellulite but i have yet to try them out. For now, i am okay to put in some time and some elbow grease to doing this routine at home. This routine helps with removing dead skin and keeping your skin healthy!
next time we will talk about microneedling which is “derma rolling” but for now I am going to end this post here. I hope this was helpful and if you have any questions or comments, make sure to leave them down below.
Let’s connect on Instagram or youtube! I am pretty active on all my social media and do my best to reply to my gang.
